"Prince"
Y15 Bay Thoroughbred Colt 16.1 HH Earnings: $301,500 Lifetime HoTY Points: |
Prince was expected to be a respectable, workmanlike horse. He was expected to want to work and do exactly what was asked of him, but no one told him that. The bay colt simply likes to pretend he is feral. He doesn't listen to restraint, he loves to bowl people over and if he ever sees another colt... well let's just say let the games begin. Prince strongly dislikes other colts and he made it obvious from the get-go. He was brought into training quicker than the others because it was obvious he'd need a firm hand from early on. Mal called him a challenge and he hasn't changed since the young age.

Grade 4: 22-5-9-5
Prospect Record: 1-0-0-0 Surface, Distance: Dirt, 5-10 Furlongs Leg Type: Front Runner Jockey: Mason Sawyer The one thing Prince loved was to run. The bay colt needs to go out to the track twice a day to fully get the most benefit and relax his always tight nerves. He pulls his rider around the track and is always on the muscle. Basically, Prince makes his exercise rider's job pretty rough. In order to prevent the bay from doing too much, the rider has to fight him. If he doesn't fight him, the colt flies around like he just swallowed a box of straight sugar. The colt is frighteningly fast and breaks out of the gate like a quarter horse. He'll go right to the front and go balls to the wall. Mal teasingly calls him the Spotlight Pride of the dirt world. Prince could be fast enough to sprint, but he really excels over a mile to ten furlongs. No one else wants to go 22 seconds and change on the front end for ten long furlongs. However... the trick is that second and third quarter when the powerful horse gets his breather and preps for the long drive down the homestretch. If Prince's opponents want to beat the bay colt, they need to tackle him at the top of the stretch and hope that they have enough to run him down. Once he has the lead, Prince doesn't want to give it up.
